We Humans Are ......Well, Complicated..

The first step toward peace is to discover yourself. The second is to square up with the truth you find. You will get fleeting glimpses of your true self (and sometimes a very clear picture) as you interact with other people, as you read the Bible, and as others minister to you.

Yet the average person usually resists facing up to his faults. Quite likely he will reject anyone who points out his error. Jesus Christ gave the precise explanation for this reaction when He said,

“For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.

John 3:20

We possess a natural dislike for rebuke. We have a built-in resistance to seeing our shortcomings. We react to reproof as we react to pain. The tendency is to shrink away, to protect ourselves from what we wish were not so.

Studying the Bible is a sure way to get at the truth about yourself, but it takes some effort, and no one can force you to study it. King David said of God’s Word,

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Psalm 119:105

The apostle Paul wrote that
Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Romans 3:20

And it was Jesus who commented,
More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

Luke 11:28

Facing the Unpleasant Truth

As the truth about you emerges from some probing stimulus, you will either face it directly or turn from it. You will mellow or harden, depending on what you choose to do about your discovery.
A young couple came for counsel.

“How is it that at times we can be so cooperative, so tender toward each other, and 15 minutes later so opposed, so hostile, so cold?” asked Marvin, the husband. “How is it possible that we can pray together and feel united in our faith but then we are battling each other over an unexpected issue?”
Marvin then opened the door on their lives to afford a glimpse inside. He remembered the day he and Gloria, his wife, had driven to the city hospital and parked. As they glanced up to the eighth floor, Marvin breathed a prayer for their three-year-old son, who hovered between life and death. “Dear God, we love our boy and we want him, but may Thy will be done. Help Gloria and me to be worthy parents and give Jimmy a happy home.”

At that moment Marvin and Gloria felt closer to each other than at any time in their lives. Carefully he helped her out of the car; arm-in-arm they walked to the door and made their way up to the boy’s room. Jimmy was asleep. A solution of some sort was being fed from a bottle into his arm. The parents looked at their son and their hearts beat as one for him. Marvin felt that he could never speak harshly to the boy again, that he could know no selfishness toward his son.

Jimmy recovered. What joy for Marvin and Gloria to bring him home! But after a week, the feelings Marvin experienced at the hospital had changed. In fact, antagonism toward both his wife and son crept into Marvin’s heart.

The boy had been waited upon night and day in the hospital. After he arrived home, Gloria kept up the pampering.

“When are you going to let him grow up?” Marvin asked his wife.
One evening Jimmy was playing on the floor near the sofa where his parents were reading. He asked his mother to go into the next room and fetch his favorite truck. She put down her magazine and started to get the toy.

“Let him go for it himself, Gloria,” Marvin said.

“I don’t mind getting it for him,” she replied.

Marvin nearly exploded. “You’re spoiling him rotten! All he needs to do is point a finger and you jump.”

Dad insisted that the boy get the toy himself. The child begged and pleaded and began to whine. Gloria became increasingly uncomfortable. Finally she defied her husband and got the truck. Jimmy was happy, but his father was enraged.

After Jimmy went to bed, a silence developed between the parents. Marvin felt quite justified for having taken his stand. Gloria felt Marvin was being too strict. While in the car outside the hospital and by their son’s bedside they had shared tender feelings and identical goals. But now they were at complete odds.

Marvin and Gloria needed to face up to a Biblical truth:
All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

Isaiah 53:6

The couple responded negatively: ‘Are you calling us sinners?” They found it hard to face the truth, even though they were fully aware that their behavior was inconsistent. They knew they were both missing the mark that they had agreed to aim at.

Sin Stands in the Way

Marvin and Gloria left the counseling session assuring each other of their devotion to a happy marriage. They renewed their vows never to fall short again. But they were soon back. They couldn’t inspire each other to be consistent.

The apostle John wrote in his first epistle:

If we refuse to admit that we are sinners, then we live in a world of illusion and truth becomes a stranger to us. But if we freely admit that we have sinned, we find God utterly reliable and straightforward He forgives our sins and makes us thoroughly clean from all that is evil. For if we take up the attitude, “we have not sinned,” we flatly deny God’s diagnosis of our condition and cut ourselves off from what He has to say to us.

1 John 1:8-10, PHILLIPS
“‘But we are Christians,” they pleaded. ”What can we do?” John wrote:
I write these things [which give you a true picture of yourself]…to help you to avoid sin. But if a man should sin, remember that our advocate before the Father is Jesus Christ the righteous, the one who made personal atonement for our sins

1 John 2:1-2 PHILLIPS
You must be careful with the word “sin”; you must be sure of its meaning. Romans 7 defines sin as the inability to do the good you want to do; it is the drive within you that causes you to do what you don’t want to do (verses 14,15,19).

Because our tendency is to fight against personal discovery, many find correction distasteful. We do not like to be reproved, even if the criticism is true. Will you fight what God reveals, or will you bend to His will?

Words, Voices, Breath

Then will they call upon me [Wisdom] but I will not answer; they will seek me early and diligently but they will not find me. Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord,   Proverbs 1: 28, 29 AMP

We are finishing up our study on Proverbs today and using God’s truth as the platform to study the scriptures below the next few weeks.

God’s truth is formed with letters when written – and referred to as “the LETTER of the law” stating not one stroke will pass away.  But God’s truth also has a voice, and when the words are lifted up in the voice of His Spirit it is called “Wisdom” because it is alive – not being limited to our own understanding which strips it of eternal glory.  The living word made flesh, not man’s flesh, but God made flesh, came in the form of His Son – Jesus Christ.  The son of God, son of man, activated and liberated the breath of God all over the world and we were then, and still are,  able to breathe in His very breath.  Think about it!   Really think about it!

This is what God says about his voice – Wisdom.  This is what we were discussing a few days ago in regard to our reactions to situations and how we are not holy – but God is.  We will be discussing all this further as well.

Read these other verses from Proverbs 1 and reflect on our past post if needed:

So are the ways of everyone who is greedy of gain; such [greed for plunder] takes away the lives of its possessors. Wisdom cries aloud in the street, she raises her voice in the markets; She cries at the head of the noisy intersections [in the chief gathering places]; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks:

How long, O simple ones [open to evil], will you love being simple? And the scoffers delight in scoffing and [self-confident] fools hate knowledge?  If you will turn (repent) and give heed to my reproof, behold, I [Wisdom] will pour out my spirit upon you, I will make my words known to you. Because I have called and you have refused [to answer], have stretched out my hand and no man has heeded it, And you treated as nothing all my counsel and would accept none of my reproof,  I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when the thing comes that shall cause you terror and panic— When your panic comes as a storm and desolation and your calamity comes on as a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you.  Then will they call upon me [Wisdom] but I will not answer; they will seek me early and diligently but they will not find me.Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord,
This is where we are traveling, metaphorically, this and next week:

40 Because God had us in mind and had something better and greater in view for us, so that they [these heroes and heroines of faith] should not come to perfection apart from us [before we could join them].
My love and prayers to each of you ~ extend Peace, exude Peace!

Candace

Their Ways.....

So are the ways of everyone who gains by violence;
It takes away the life of its possessors. Proverbs 1:19

Over the past few months we have been reflecting on various topics: safe relationships, authentic character, fear of circumstances and discerning God's will. One of the reasons we fall prey to our emotions, we discussed, is that we do not actually remember or know all of God's character.

It is good to remind ourselves that we ARE created in His image; therefore much of our emotional experiences / feelings naturally respond in a like fashion. However, we are not capable of employing our emotions, giving them action, without sin.

As I was studying all this further, from past groups information, I studied Proverbs again in light of all this. While reading these next verses, I realized how I have reacted similarly, even verbalized something similar before. I bet many of you have as well. But ....we are not God and each of us have been on the receiving end of His reaction before.

I thank God for Christ and that now - we may read this and glean without guilt, condemnation or shame. So let's LIVE, LEARN and LOVE!

Notice what the verse we opened with states:

This verse is really intricate and means a great deal more than we perceive at first glance. Violence was translated from the Hebrew word Batsa; which means to cut off; to break; to get unrighteous gain; to overreach; to rob; to complete; to finish. The main thrust of this word is tearing something to pieces, ripping, breaking as stated in the NAS dictionary. In regard to threads of integrity and our garments, you will find this nugget of information interesting also: it was a technical term used by weavers to describe the action of cutting a piece of cloth free from the loom after it had been woven.

Let's look at this verse: Everyone....who gains by violence....

As I read this, in light of our definition, I immediately was reflecting on John 10:10 "The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life." Years ago, when I was studying this verse I came to really understand the safety of our sheepfold. Christ is depicted as the doorkeeper, our Shepard. It spoke of how we only hear His voice and we cannot be "snatched away". (we will not be studying this till next week) The above verse is speaking of a thief, they have taken something which was in the rightful posession of another. It was taken by force, not as a gift.

These proverbs were written to give prudence to the naive, knowledge and discretion to increase learning and aid in counsel. Solomon went on to tell his son: if sinners entice you - do not consent; do not go with them; do not walk in their ways! When I read this verse in the past I read it as though it were addressing how these criminal minds were stealing from people and abusing their control over individuals; victimizing them. Even though this is accurate, there is another thread holding it all together: The true possesor is God. He is the giver of all good and perfect gifts and no one receives anything which does not come from His hand.

What can really be stolen?
If you think yourself so cunning and clever, answer this - are you more powerful than God? As we studied last week from Acts: you might find that you are fighting God. As Isaiah states: Beware, lest the Lord hurl you away!

More on all this later, have a great evening.
Kisses,
Candace

I'm Over Over Acheivement!

As a general assumption in regards to our societal mindset, I believe we are a bit too over achiever focused.   It is very obvious that we believe we can do anything if we just know how to do it.  We are supposed to be "self" sufficient.  We are annoyed by anyone who "can't pull their own weight".

We believe relationships are supposed to be "happy and convenient".  Everything is supposed to be geographically desirable or it's too much of an effort.  Children are to be like little adults, fully able to control themselves without stressing anyone out or embarrassing others.  The list goes on and on.....

Maybe this is a little over the top - I will let you be the judge.  But I started noticing how we even hold this over achiever's mentality and expectation with our salvation and new life in Christ.  When we think of getting saved, we think "Pow Wham" my life will be all fine now.  None of this "no pain, no gain" stuff.   We just wait till we know enough and have lived how we want to live - then in our own strength we will say it's time and start implementing everything.  Why don't we just have a belly laugh once and for all - right here, right now!

I thank God that He knows us - how we think, act and what motivates us.  And He still chose us!  If we can't see, in that alone, just how  "loving, just and reasonable" he is,  then the rest is really going to be hard for us. In reality all we do is choose to finally let Him in.  Then He will start showing us things - hopefully we will be willing to give new ways a try - hence the "trip, fall, fly" process.

God IS reasonable and He shows us this continually. For instance,  He explained to us not to start off with a 5 course meal as we digest  these new things.  He suggested that we start as a baby with milk - like a newborn.  He understood that we would have to start out with something that all we had to do was focus and learn.  It also had to be something with a quick turn around.  Remember, He knows us well.

He chose something that we could see, experience emotional feeling of relief  about  - which would also  bring great joy as well as be able to multiply:  our provision.  And yet this is the one thing which is the hardest for us to trust Him with! Coincidence? I think not!  The truth is, in order for us to trust Him, we must COMPLETELY let go of  trusting in our "self".

Do YOU think it is a coincidence?

 Think about these things:

He wants us to have faith in Him~Even if we speak like we believe something, we will not "trust" it till we have seen or heard about it from someone be "believe" to be a trust worthy source. ( think about that statement for a few days ;))  This is what I think is so very cool about faith - we actually get to use our brains, discover, question and find the truth.  (Yes I am a full fledged geek - people don't expect this from me =D)

God tells us that Faith is the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things Not seen - in Hebrews 11:1;  thus He promises He will make it tangible in some way.  It's not some mysterious, elusive, enigma.  There is substance and evidence - that's proof!  He tells us it is His words which make it manifest, or produces it.  " For the word of God is active and living."
This means we must know His words, in order to speak them, to produce the real and tangible.  But here in lies a problem because we will not speak something we do not have faith in - remember we are over achiever's who don't want to be made a spectacle of.

Again, God is reasonable.  He knew we were going to be of this mentality.  So He, in advance, told us how to achieve this feat with success in Romans 10:17 "So then - faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God". We simply have to listen - how hard is that?  Well, pretty hard when the voices or words are telling us the truth.  But give it a try!

God loves you and me.......and He IS reasonable, loving and just. Today, just read about how He desires to provide for you.  It's a promise, just like the birds, flowers and trees.  He will provide for you - always in all ways.I thank Him, from all of us, for His providing a safe place for you to receive this; what a luxury it is to have your own computer.  He has nourished our body, given us comprehension and sustenance to sustain us yet another grand day.

Continue on Living His Dream!
With love,
Candace

Peace By God's Hand

Proverb 16:7 Has been a deep thought of mine for the past few weeks.  I have not been able to move beyond it.  There are many verses which I have been deconstructing my own understanding and reconstructing them in light of God's truth.

When a man's ways are pleasing to the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

This made me really just sit down and close my mouth - didn't think that could happen did you?  What do we worry about, why do we stress?  If we would just mind our OWN business and BE about HIS business then we will HAVE the peace which surpasses all understanding!

Which made me think:

If we were perfect....we wouldn't NEED people.
If people were perfect.....we wouldn't NEED a perfect God.
And if the only time I can believe that life / God is good is when I perceive things are perfect...then I have really said nothing of any substance at all.

There is a Story Being Told group has started up again, and we are going to be using the information from the past months to find the threads of our stories.  We will be weaving them through out God's story and His characters who experienced their story lines within His pages.  I hope those of you who have not been involved in the past will join us.  Even if it is sharing your thoughts, story lines by the blog or allowing us to share them in group.

As for today, read these two poems and reflect.  If you want to refresh your memory on the prior topics I have them linked at the bottom.

With Love,
Candace

Walk ON

IF

If I had not been called
I would not know how to answer
If I had not have opened the door
He would not have had entry
IF I had not welcomed him
He would not have stayed
If I had not have asked
He would not have answered me
IF he had had no patience with me
I would not be able to share of his love
If I had not needed his encouragement
He would not have made it available
If I had not experienced hardship
I would not have know that I needed him
If he did not let me face the pain of my choices
I would not have known hardship
If he had not set boundaries
I would not have grown
If I did not turn to Him
I would never have known true peace
IF I had never desired to know His peace
I would never have known my Lord

My Lord loves through teaching, embracing, encouraging, sacrificing and giving
He gives abundantly: strength and peace
The strength to face the task
And the peace to mentally stay focused
There are so many facets of his love
I have a tendency to only consider the ones that I can hope to accomplish in my own strength
Until I truly seek my Sheppard, I have absolutely no means to gain understanding
It is through conversing with him, that he grants us his visions and understanding
He desires to increase us because he has massive amounts to accomplish
We have to be still and empty our lives of ourselves in order to be filled with him
He dwells among us in any form that will give Him room
He is not one: He is many, He is abundant, and He is everyone that wishes to love
He is patient, kind, and understanding
He is rich, poor, every race and language
He is every size and every age and He wishes us all to love deeply, tenderly, openly, honestly, truly, passionately, eagerly, genuinely
But mostly -freely; with wings that can carry, cover, lift and give life

Together we are One, we are Complete, we are Christ

A Worthy Display

Running and taking off, flying and free
My crippled feet, powerful, I lift off without wings,
By faith alone, my heart is soaring,
Strong arms carry me home.

The Word of God speaks, as silence abounds,
Thundering my purpose, holding my hand.
I'm never alone, even when people are few,
Bold is my witness, my companion is true.
My trust and salvation, pulse strong and pure
To illuminate pathways, lead forward the doomed.
Melodious are your victories; so picturesque, the view...

Strong arms carry me home.

Obscure as a puzzle, pieces chosen and carefully placed,
Perfection upon completion. Satisfaction. All pieces fit.
A scene preservation worthy; and we're unworthy to see,
Sing praise for forgiveness and for words spoken and true,
Grace unleashed in abundance,
to the meek and humble, troubled or doomed.
By faith alone, my heart is soaring,
Strong arms carry me home.

We are seeking, and He is calling,
and every heart needs to hear:
Eyes are opened when doors are answered,
The completed puzzle is now in view.
Not bound to a gallery, for no wall could contain,
Majestic beauty spilling over, flowing colors of his love.
Awed before this vision, words seem inadequate to express,
So I bow in silent worship, to the God that is such as this.

Do You Have a Thread of Integrity?

Conflict, relationships and our own space within the fabric of human life is not easy to fully comprehend; nor is our behavior or choices we must make. When we attempt to resolve conflict, resolution is only possible as far as it depends on the least peaceable element. For this reason, God tenderly asks us to remember.....As much as it depends on YOU, be at peace; then entreats us to walk away from those who do not extend peace or will not receive your peace.

Have you ever asked or been asked, "Do you have a thread of integrity?!?"  That statement is not often made unless someone is pulling your security blanket away - or simply pulling at a niggling thread.  We want to protect our blanky, holes or not it is OUR special blanky!

We are only going to pull this one thread today. Why?  Because we do not want to unravel everything, leaving nothing but a bunch of overstretched useless threads laying around ;)

First Point:

We are a thread which God is desiring to use to darn wholes in a very bad weave job.  He has a magnificent "coverlet of love" which has been misused, worn out and is not blanketing those who desperately need His swaddling.

Second Point:

Darning defined by Meridian Dictionary as: to mend with interlacing stitches.  The Free Dictionary stated it is to mend ( a garment, for example) by weaving thread or yarn across a gap or hole.

Third Point:

In order for a fabric to have integrity the weaves have to be perfectly laid out and pulled.  Also the fiber of each thread must have integrity.  Integrity is defined as: the quality or state of being complete or undivided.  Knowing this helps us understand this verse: Ecc. 4:12 And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.

Read "The Fabric of Life" and we will pull at another thread tomorrow.
My love to each of you.  May you feel me tuck each one of you in under His mighty blanket of love; and hear the sweet song of His heart as you drift of to sleep tonight.

Kisses,
Candace

Fabric of Life

How does one measure the depth of deep
what limits the length of pain
At which point does far begin
at what distance determines an end
Does our beauty enhance our soul
or simply decorate a vast empty shell
Does our life embrace and extend
or suffocate all that lives
What is internal always reaches beyond,
once external it can stab extremely deep
Each breath of our lives mesh a fabric …
as we pass in and through the moments of our day
We pass, we speak, we consider
But do we dare look into their eyes
There is a risk that we take with each moment
a sight, a pierce…but will it hold our gaze
If so we see a depth beyond the crystal surface
an abyss into the center of the sea
The timid opt only for wading
keeping distance from a voice they seem to hear
They splash and frolic in the shallowest of waters
Where avoidance and distraction breaks the moment that was shared
It is true, my face you found so lovely,
Yet I desired for you to truly see me
I watch you wade and peer into the reflection
I even sense when you are losing true sight
I pray you stay and look beyond mere beauty
If only for a glimpse into the wonders of this cobalt sea
Dear God, I pray lust not consume you,
There is vision beyond this flesh that you see
Can’t you stop even just for one moment?
listen to the whisper of tranquility offering you peace
Take one more step into my wanting waters
Feel the refreshing coolness splash atop your bare feet
Stand here, still, as it rolls in to embrace you,
You feel the pull to return into the serene sea
To ride these waves you must merge in with your body
With trust and time you will understand her ebb and flow
Respect of her strength is your lifeline
Her deep mystery is the passion for which you yearn
Your thrill will be in the experience,
A true experience which will enrich your life
Yet here you stand isolated and lonely,
a man…or an island as they say
What you’re now refusing to remember
are the times you braved the waters depths
To capture the loveliest of images
the face you longed to embrace
Years later you now know this vision
and you see you reached who you fought to become
You were not intended to be isolated and lonely
Yet to leave…again you must brave the depths of that sea
Alone you will never make it
seek a true image, a vision, full and complete
There is no fear as you dive; you are empowered
merged into the body and risen into a new life
Here there is no battle or struggle…
Simply the depths of true peace giving life

Walk On.......

Groups were wonderful Friday - both day and night!  Thank you for desiring to join together and stimulate higher thoughts. It is always such an amazing experience for me that I have to keep the time we're together in check.  We all know I could probably talk till the cow come home ;)

Our focus this coming week is to search out the highest thoughts available and strive to keep them in focus.  As a recap, we were discussing "How We Walk".  The basis of our conversations were Ephesians 4:

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord entreat you to walk (making your way, progressing through opportunities; how you conduct and regulate yourself as you pass by things / people) in a manner worthy (your suit, what image is showing or manifesting) of the calling(divine invitation to embrace God's salvation), with which you HAVE BEEN called (receive and bear the name of; to salute one by name).

Not being Greek or even a scholar of any type, I have to research why translators choose a defining word to represent the original language.  When I do this, I have to pause and dig deep; turn the situations to peer all angles.  Most importantly I have to read the whole story being told and what the situation / application is.

Paul is stated to be "entreating" these individuals. What that means is, he was calling them to come along on this walk with him, to walk like Christ walked,  which was the way Paul strived to not only walk, but lead, teach, encourage, train up and disciple.  He wanted them to understand that they were watched by the lost, by the hurting and those looking to catch a glimpse of what Christ looks like.  They were watching to see if the ones passing by were trustworthy to follow and find Christ, or maybe simply desiring to catch them in a way which would strip them of their integrity.  Either way, it was and IS important that what we proclaim and what we manifest match.

But we did not see Christ; we do not have Paul, Peter and the others to watch and follow.  But we have something better....the Holy Spirit!   The Holy Spirit is humble, gentle, patient and shows forbearance to us in love.  Paul said this is what our walk should look like as you pass through out your day.  Think of it as the suit they see us wearing and how we act in it.  When you pass by a mirror, do you see how you walk, the things you do......or do you simply see how good you look on the outside and make adjustments?  We need to take a quick look deeper than that and check out how our soul looks.  Who's suit are you wearing?  (these are linked back to the topics on suits and image, click them if you did not read them...please!)

We do not use the word forbearance often, what does that really mean?  We did a little exercise on with pillows in the day group to experience what this looks like.  Forbearance in the Greek means to hold up, hold against, cling to as in a marriage vow.  It has to do with what we extend or reject as when the bible tells us to "extend peace" yet when our peace is rejected to keep it and walk away.  God do is entreating us to not walk outside of His will.  Where are we walking?  Why are we in the intimate companionship of those who are not walking worthy of the call? Did we give our self over to a relationship that was not called by the same name?

It went on to explain that we are enabled to walk this way due to the unity of the holy spirit.  We can love, forgive and relate without hypocrisy due to HIM, those without His power are able to muster up the ability for selfish gain, but not out of  true love - because they are not IN love!  Verse 17 and 18 explains it like this:

This I say, therefore, and affirm together with the Lord (an example of the power of the unity / one mind with Christ's thoughts) that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, (how do they walk ????) in the futility of their mind! (what does this walk look like ?)  being darkened in their understanding.....excluded  from the life of God, because....of the hardness of their heart; and they have become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality, for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness (they can't get enough they try it every way and even manufacture new ways.....they can't feel when they touch, they can't feel when they ARE touched. )

God does not want to be blamed or given credit for what we "give ourselves" to.  He desire the credit for helping us through the consequences by extending His mercy and grace; which empowers us beyond our natural capabilities to get through the moments we are walking out.

Think about this - tomorrow I will send a little something special to encourage and stimulate us to walk on........well!

Walk on my friends, in peace and the mind of Christ!
Kisses,
Candace
